Khojaly genocide became leading theme on Twitter

Baku, February 28, AZERTAC Discussions on numerous events held in the framework of the campaign “Justice for Khojaly!” significantly influenced the subjects on Twitter both in Azerbaijan and around the world. The study revealed that at 15.00-18.00 on February 26, the topic of the Khojaly genocide was the most discussed in Twitter and was most shared by users. The theme of the Khojaly genocide took first place on the Top Trend of Twitter. That means that millions of Twitter users expressed their attitude to the tragedy. The theme of the Khojaly genocide also reached a record for the number of “retwits”. In previous years persons, expressing opinion on Khojaly genocide in social networks, were mostly citizens of Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as Azerbaijanis and Turks living in different countries. This year, a significant part of users of Twitter, citizens of different countries were especially active in the discussions of this topic. Twitter users categorically condemned the atrocities committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis. Many commentators noted that the Khojaly genocide recognized by authoritative international organizations who have given a legal assessment to the tragedy. There was also an intensive exchange of visual information about the victims of genocide. Political figures, politicians, experts, political scientists, popular people in various fields took active part in the discussions. During the research, it was revealed that the campaigns “Justice for Khojaly!” led a great resonance in the global trend of Twitter and has become a major topic in the local trend.
