Kidnapped businessman released in Cambodia, say Thai police

BANGKOK, November 15 (TNA) - A Cambodian businessman of the Chinese origin--who was kidnapped in Bangkok for ransom early this week--has already been released by kidnappers and is now staying in Cambodia. Police Colonel Akaradej Pimolsri, Acting Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, told reporters of the update on Saturday. Police Colonel Akaradej said the businessman, identified as Chen Ji, was abducted and was taken away in a van in front of Baiyoke 2 Building in Bangkok’s Pratunam area on November 11. Police Colonel Akaradej stated that the victim was about to enter the building to have lunch on that day, but he was abducted by a group of unidentified men. Police Major General Sombat Milintajinda, Superintendent of the Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, reported that the kidnappers later sent a message to Chen’s driver, setting the ransom for his release at 100 million baht and set the deadline on Friday night. Police Major General Sombat said the victim then sent another message to his driver that he was released on Friday evening and was staying in Cambodia. Thai police are continued hunting for the abductors, while expecting that the victim should meet them on November 17, as he needed time to collect necessary evidence to submit to the police concerning his abduction.
