King Fahd Causeway development plan unveiled

Manama, Feb. 10 (BNA): Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa received King Fahd Causeway Authority (KFCA) director-general Abdulrahman bin Saad Al-Yahya. The meeting was attended by Customs President and KFCA Vice Chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa and Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan. The minister hailed deep-rooted relations binding Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and commended the KFCA-led efforts to undertake development projects to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the strategic artery. He was briefed about the upcoming development plans for the causeway and the technical studies of the project’s phases to increase the capacity of its lanes. The expansion is expected to start within six months and involves increasing the number of lanes from 17 to 45, representing an increase of 120% to 132%. To reduce the waiting period, there will be two lanes for each entrance leading to eight cabins. This will facilitate the movement of traffic between the customs and the passport cabins. This capacity might be increased by raising the number of cabins in the future. Al-Yahya thanked the Interior Minister for his dedication and resolve to implement the organisation’s development projects and the excellent support of the ministry.
