KL Big Kitchen Festival Eyes Foodies From All Over The Globe

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur is set to welcome foodies from all over the country as well as from around the world when it hosts the the Kuala Lumpur Big Kitchen Festival scheduled for May 29 to 31. To be held at the iconic Dataran Merdeka (Merdeka Square), the festival will feature some 60 food counters helmed by top local and international chefs. Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Phesal Talib said the event would be an ideal platform to promote the city as the 'melting pot' of Southeast Asia. "The food festival will serve delectable dishes ranging from street food right up to fine dining while highlighting Kuala Lumpur as the gastronomy heaven to foodies around the world," he said during the event's media launch here Tuesday. The mayor noted that Kuala Lumpur was ranked ninth in terms of international tourist arrivals in the Top 100 City Destinations Ranking 2013 by Euromonitor International. He said it was no surprise that the city was ranked highly, given it offered a wide array of culinary delights that was always of interest to visitors. Festival curator Chef Norman Musa expressed confidence that the event would attract food lovers from around the globe. "During the time I lived in the United Kingdom, I myself did a lot of promotions on Malaysian cuisine in a number of countries, they (foreigners) really love our food," he said. --BERNAMA
