Knowledge of producing tropical fruits localized in Sistan-Baluchestan

Zahedan, Sistan-Baluchestan Prov., Nov 16, IRNA – Head of the provincial Agriculture Jihad Organization says the knowledge of production of tropical fruits has been localized in the province thanks to the efforts of provincial experts and researchers. Reza Najafi said in the light of efforts by experts and by using the tissue culture method for products such as banana, dates and mango in the agriculture research center of Iranshahr, steps have been taken for localization of tropical fruits. He said Iranshahr research center after Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center of Karaj is the second equipped center in the country. He pointed to uniformity of farms, pollution and disease-free produced seedlings, early production after being transferred to the main land and increase in production per hectare as being among advantages of tissue culture. Najafi further remarked that so far over 20 thousand banana saplings have been produced at Iranshahr research center, adding that efforts will be made for expanding banana gardens in the province so that over 200 banana saplings will be produced annually. He said in tissue culture from each banana bud at each stage 10 to 15 saplings are produced and through constant regeneration of each sapling over two thousands saplings will be grown. Iranshahr research center founded in 1389 (2010-2011) with a fund of over five billion rials is equipped with culture and growth rooms and is equipped with necessary facilities for regeneration and care of the culture tissue./end
