Korean Embassy holds art contest for IDP students in Barda on occasion of International Day for Protection of Children

Barda, June 1, AZERTAC The Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Azerbaijan has organized a fairytale drawing contest for IDP students in Barda to commemorate the International Day for the Protection of Children. Visiting Barda on May 29, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Choi Suk Inn first laid flowers at a statue of the national leader Heydar Aliyev and met with Mr. Vidadi Isayev, head of the Barda District Executive Authority. He also familiarized himself with an IDP settlement in Barda and talked with a family. About 100 IDP students ranged from grades 2 to 5 participated contest which took place at Aghdam IDPs School No. 1.The students used their imaginations to illustrate the Azerbaijani fairytale “Pretty Fatma” and the Korean fairytale “Shim Cheong,” and three winners took home Samsung Galaxy tablets or smartphones. All the participants received schoolbags, stationery and cookies from the Korean Embassy and Korean companies Halla Corporation and HEERIM Architects and Planners. After the contest, Korean Ambassador Choi Suk Inn ate lunch with the students and enjoyed Azerbaijani dishes such as kebabs and plov. Later in the day, Korean filmmaker Seong Si-heub’s 2014 romantic comedy “Plan Man” was screened at the Barda Culture Center. More than 300 Barda citizens attended the screening of the hit film, which achieved great success in Korea and was also popular in many other countries. The purpose of these events was to promote mutual understanding and trust between the peoples of the two countries. The contest was supported by the State Committee for the Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons and the Executive Power of the Barda Region. The Korean Embassy held a similar events in the Fuzuli district last month and is planning to hold one more in a different region of Azerbaijan later this year.
