KPK Investigators Raid Riau Governor's Office

Pekanbaru, Riau, Oct 6 (Antara) - At least eight investigators of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) raided the office of Riau Governor Annas Maamun here Monday to collect important documents in connection with his alleged involvement in a corruption case. The anti-graft body`s investigators arrived at Maamun`s office at 09.15 am local time along with three armed Mobile Brigade personnel. During the investigation, they thoroughly checked the working rooms of the governor and his regional secretary, Zaini Ismail. On Sunday, the KPK investigators had seized numerous important documents from the house of Annas Maamun who was recently arrested in Jakarta along with a number of people including a Riau businessman named Gulat Manurung. The KPK investigators then named him as a suspect for allegedly receiving a bribe in connection with the issuance of license to convert forests into plantation in Riau with a maximum jail term of five years. They also named Gulat Manurung, a palm oil businessman, a suspect for allegedly bribing the governor. During the recent arrest, the KPK investigators confiscated money worth more than Rp2 billion including 156 Singaporean dollars and Rp500 million from the suspects.
