KPK, Police, Attorney General Conduct Joint Training

Sentani, Papua, May 13 (Antara) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), National Police, and Attorney General`s Office have conducted a joint training to improve law enforcement capacity in the handling of corruption in Papua Province. KPK Chairman Abraham Samad here on Monday said the joint training was a follow up of a joint agreement, between the Commission, the National Police, and Attorney General on optimizing corruption eradication efforts. The agreement was signed by the three parties on March 29, 2012, at Attorney General`s Office. "The joint training is actually an implementation of the trigger mechanism functions mandated by the Act to the Commission," he said. The joint agreement between the three parties, according to Abraham, includes several strategic matters in implementing law enforcement against corruption in Indonesia, which are coordination, supervision, information exchange, assistance in inquiry, investigation, or prosecution, as well as search assistance of suspect, accused, or convicted. "This joint agreement also includes assistance in the execution of court decisions, surveillance assistance in the case of parole, and personnel support," he said. Abraham Samad stated that synergy between law enforcement officers and auditors from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) is required in handling of extraordinary corruption cases, in which the officers need to uphold professional values, integrity, effective monitoring, and also application of strict sanctions that can give a deterrent effect. "We do this cooperation to overcome various obstacles in the handling of corruption cases and the return of the state`s financial losses, especially to realize a more effective synergy between law enforcement agencies and BPK within the jurisdiction of Papua," he explained.
