KPK Searches House Of Corruption Suspect Former Papua

Jakarta, Sept 8 (Antara) - The house of former Papua Governor Barnabas Suebu, has been searched by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the process of investigation into alleged corruption in the procurement of "Detailing Engineering Design" of a hydro electric plant at the Mamberamo river in Papua in 2009-2010. Barnabas was named suspect by KPK on August 5 together with former head of the provincial mining and energy service Jannes Jophan Karubaba and president director of PT Konsultasi Pembangunan Irian Jaya Lamusi Didi. KPK also searched the office of the provincial energy and mining service, the offices of the autonomy service and Konsultasi Pembangunan Irian Jaya Barnabas, who was Papua governor in 2006-2011, is an elected legislative candidate for 2014-2019 representing Papua. Barnabas was charged with abuse of power and together with the two other suspects caused a loss of around Rp35 billion in state fund . The suspects were charged with inflating the price of the project valued at Rp56 billion . If found guilty Barnabas is facing a maximum jail term of 20 years with a fine of Rp1 billion.
