Kuala Lumpur Conference On Nuclear Energy Starts On Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- With 449 nuclear power reactors in operations in over 30 countries, and another 60 reactors under construction in 15 countries, it is evident that nuclear power is a viable alternative energy option for many countries. Hence, the two-day, Nuclear Power Asia 2017 (NPA 2017) conference that begins here Tuesday with the theme 'Nuclear Power: Fuelling A Sustainable Future' delves into the nuclear energy's potential. According to Sheriffah Noor Khamseah Al-Idid Syed Ahmad Idid, a member of one of the panel sessions at the conference, about 300 national and international participants will participate in the event. Organised by Clarion Events, the conference is also co-hosted by Malaysia Nuclear Power Corporation (MNPC) and co-organised with Nuclear Malaysia with the support of Korean Nuclear Energy Agency (KNEA) and National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia (BATAN). Sheriffah noted that the NPA 2017, the 8th Edition of Nuclear Power Asia, is the platform and event for international and regional stakeholders, including regulators, nuclear energy agencies, operators and nuclear businesses (including construction, manufacturing and services) within the nuclear power industry. Nancy Shukri, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Nuclear Power Planning, will be delivering the opening address at Nuclear Power Asia 2017. Dohee Hahn, Director of the Division of Nuclear Power, Department of Nuclear Energy, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will deliver the IAEA keynote address. The keynote panel discussions will focus on nuclear energy development in ASEAN with speakers from Malaysia Nuclear Power Corporation, Nuclear Malaysia, National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia (BATAN) and ASEAN Centre for Energy, Jakarta. -- BERNAMA
