Kulon Progo Holds Fish-Eating Champaign

KULON PROGO, Yogyakarta, July 24 (Antara) - The Kulon Progo District in Yogyakarta has held a fish-eating campaign in place of beef because fish consumption in this region is very low. Kulon Progro Marine and Fisheries Office spokesperson Lely Marwati remarked here on Sunday that the level of fish consumption reached 24.22 kilograms per capita per year, much lower than the national fish consumption which reached 43 kilograms per capita per year. "Consumption of fish in Kulon Progo is very low. Therefore we intensively socializes fish fondness to schools and community groups," Lely said. According to her, the low consumption of fish in Kulon Progo is caused by the culture of society to eat beef instead of fish. In addition, the culture of people who love to eat tempeh and tofu has always been difficult to change. "Therefor, the fish-eating campaign aims to increase the public's interest to eat fish in balanced with tofu and tempeh," she said. In addition to the fish-eating campaign, she said the local government also performed various activities such as fish-based food menu competition, fish meal processing training, and provide quality fresh fish at Gowok Wates Market. u.
