Kuwait to propose holding international conference on humanitarian aid to Iraq, Yemen, Ukraine

KUWAIT CITY, March 30. /TASS/. Kuwait plans to propose holding an international conference on humanitarian aid to Iraq, Yemen and Ukraine. At the moment, the Persian Gulf country prepares to host the Third International Pledging Conference for Syria which will kick off on March 31 in Kuwait City. "When the UN asks Kuwait to host a conference on humanitarian issues, it is a great honor for the emirate," Kuwaiti State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah told a press conference on Sunday. Last year, the UN announced that Kuwait turned into "an international humanitarian center" and named Emir Sabah Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the "humanitarian leader." The Kuwaiti state minister, who also serves as the conference coordinator, refused to predict the sum collected at the end of the event. However, he noted that it is expected to be larger than last year. Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said the sum is growing every year: in 2013 around $1.5 billion were collected, in 2014 - more than $2.4 billion. The aim of the conference was to collect $6.5 billion. The largest batch of aid was provided by Kuwait - $0.5 billion. Read more
