Kyrgyzstan to shut down customs points at 8 border checkpoints after its accession to EAEU

BISHKEK, August 7. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan will shut down customs points at 8 border crossing checkpoints after it becomes a full-fledged member-state of the Eurasian Economic Union /EAEU/, First Vice Chairman of the country’s State Customs Service Azamat Sulaimanov said on Friday. Of all member-states of the organization, Kyrgyzstan only has a common border with Kazakhstan, Sulaimanov said. "Eight points of customs control will be shut down on the border with this country," he said, adding that among them there are 7 vehicular checkpoints and 1 railways checkpoint. The official ceremony of opening the customs borders with Kazakhstan will take place next week, First Vice Chairman of the State Customs Service said. The ceremonay is expected to be attended by the leaders of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Kyrgyzstan’s Economy Minister Oleg Pankratov said earlier that customs borders of the republic will be opened after the Eurasian Economic Commission receives a notification from Kazakhstan on ratification of all documents on Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the union. On Wednesday, Kazakhstan ratified the agreement on Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a corresponding law and several protocols on introducing changes to the EAEU agreement from 29 May 2014, the presidential press service said. Kazakhstan was the last country to ratify the agreement on Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the EAEU after Armenia, Belarus and Russia have already approved the deal. The agreement on Kyrgyzstan’s accession to EAEU was signed in December 2014 at a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow. On May 8, the leaders of EAEU member-countries signed protocols to the agreement. Kyrgyzstan will become the fifth Eurasian Union member-country. Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan signed a treaty on the EAEU in Astana on May 29, 2014, which came into force on January 1, 2015. Armenia joined the union last December. The EAEU membership involves free movement of goods, capital and labor between its member-countries as well as the provision of services. Read more
