Langkawi Police Of M'sia's Kedah State Taking Preventive Measures Ahead Of ASEAN Summit Retreat

LANGKAWI (Kedah, Malaysia), April 9 (Bernama) -- Langkawi police are taking preventive measures to ensure no untoward incident occurs during the ASEAN Summit 2015 retreat which begins on April 27. Its police chief, Supt Harrith Kam Abdullah said the measures included raising the level of security at the venue of the summit which would be attended by all ASEAN heads of government, as well as intensifying marine patrols in the vicinity of the island. "We are prepared, as far as providing security for the event is concerned, as well as escorting the VVIPs, and providing other prevention measures to contain any issue that might arise," he said. He was speaking to reporters here Wednesday, at a mass blood donation campaign in conjunction with the 208th Police Day celebrations. According to Harrith Kam, although the ASEAN Summit would not be the first international event that the police are dealing with, they will not rest on their laurels to ensure the smooth running of the event. "We may be fresh from hosting the LIMA (Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition) which went on without any major incident but we are keeping up with our surveillance, come this summit," he said. -- BERNAMA
