Larijani: Iran, Italy determined to expedite trade, commerce

Tehran, May 5, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that political will of Iranian and Italian officials will remove impediments to expansion of mutual economic and trade cooperation. In a meeting with Co-Chairman of Italy-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group Ettore Rosato in Tehran, Larijani said friendly parliamentary ties have always played an effective and important role in consolidation of bilateral relations. He said current level of economic and commercial relations between the two countries fell short of the extensive capacities of Iran and Italy. He acknowledged the determination of the two countriesˈ officials to enhance level of economic cooperation. He said political decisions of the two countriesˈ officials serve as the main point to upgrade ties, calling for removal of impediments in the way of cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries. Larijani welcomed role of Italy in regional issues and said Iran supports cooperation with Italy on common concerns in the region. On Iranian nuclear talks with the western governments, Larijani said Iran needs peaceful nuclear energy to meet its requirements and that Iranian nuclear program follows peaceful purpose. The Speaker said Iran has never been after nuclear arms and considers weapons of mass destruction as a threat to security of the region and the world. Rosato said for his part that Italian parliament and government are willing to develop relations with Iran. ˈParliaments and governments of the two countries should exchange views and hold talks on ways to upgrade cooperation and relations.ˈ Rosato acknowledged Iranian nuclear talks with Group 5+1 and said Italy supports the nuclear deal struck on November 24, and is interested in the Comprehensive Agreement to be signed as soon as possible. end
