Latest edition of Thai dictionary introduced

BANGKOK, July 27 (TNA) - Thailand’s Royal Institute has introduced its latest edition of the Thai dictionary, with additional technical terms and vocabularies advised by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office Santi Prompat introduced the new edition of the Thai dictionary at a press conference in Bangkok on Friday. The Royal Institute initiated a project to revise its Thai dictionary in 2011, as part of grand celebrations nationwide for His Majesty the King’s 84th birthday anniversary, with special Professor Jamnong Thongprasert heading the revision team. The first batch of 10,000 copies of the Royal Institute's newly-developed Thai dictionary is now ready to be handed out to educational and religious institutes, government agencies, the Cabinet and members of parliament. The new Thai dictionary will be available for public purchase in December 2013, but people can, in the meantime, access to the Royal Institute's new Thai dictionary through its official website. The minister, meanwhile, called on the Royal Institute to always cope with the globalisation, which affects patterns of language use, while urging the public to support the use of Thai language, along with other languages, as part of national preparations for the ASEAN Community (AC), set to be formed by 2015.
