Lavrov says Islamists’ plans threaten international security

MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. The plans of Islamists to create a caliphate stretching from Portugal to Pakistan arouse concerns, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the annual press conference in Moscow on Tuesday. "This is a real threat not only to the regional but the entire international security," Lavrov stressed. "Russia in these conditions has sought to take active steps as a permanent member of the UN Security Council," Russia’s top diplomat said. "We acted and not only defended our national interests but also fulfilled our responsibility for the situation in the world." Read more
