At least five people injured in two bomb attacks in Hat Yai

SONGKHLA, THAILAND, May 6 (TNA) - At least five people were injured in two bomb attacks in Hat Yai, Thailand's southern business hub in the southern Songkhla Province on Tuesday afternoon. The first bomb blast took place in front of a convenience store, 7-Eleven, on Polpichai Road, wounding at least five victims. Songkhla Governor Krisda Boonraj rushed to the scene shortly after the first bomb blast, together with a unit of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers, who then cordoned off the area for public safety. Another bomb explosion was later reported at the new Hat Yai Police Station, which is still under construction, causing damage to some vehicles parking in the area, but there were no reports of injuries. Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Walit Rojanapakdi, newly-appointed Commanding General of the 4th Army Area Command, called an urgent meeting with agencies concerned at Siridhorn Camp in Ya Rang District of nearby Pattani Province, shortly after the twin bomb blasts in Hat Yai to discuss the situation.
