At least six people killed in Thailand's landslide

PHETCHABURI, THAILAND, June 3 (TNA) - At least six people were killed and several others were injured in a landslide at their quarry, after a heavy rain, in Phetchaburi province in the Upper Thai South Sunday night. The landslide happened while workers of Phet Samut Company were transporting stone from the quarry in the Nong Chumpol locality of Phetchaburi's Khao Yoi district. A large number of rocks then fell on the workers' vehicles, including three backhoes, three trucks and two pickup trucks. Three bodies have been retrieved so far, but three others were stuck in their backhoes. Six other workers were rescued but three of them were seriously injured. About 3-4 other workers have remained missing. Local police are investigating the incident and provincial authorities have, in the meantime, cordoned off the quarry for public safety. (TNA)
