Licence revoked for cab drivers rejecting passengers

BANGKOK, Nov 29 (TNA) - The Transport Ministry’s Land Transport Department is going to take a tough action against the driver who refuses to give service by having his driving licence suspended or revoked. Director-General of the Land Transport Department Sanit Promwong said his department had discussed the issue with army and police officials after arresting nearly 1,300 taxi drivers between March 24 – November 27 in Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong area. Of the total apprehended taxi drivers, about 300 did not show driving licence, about 200 turned down to give service to passengers and about 160 did not use taxi meters. Four of the arrested taxi drivers had repeatedly refused to give services to passengers. Officials from the department have joined hands with army and police personnel to patrol in front of four major shopping malls in Ratchaprasong area, especially between 4.30 p.m.- 10.00 p.m. where many complaints are received, to make sure that the drivers give their services to the public. Complaints on taxi drivers failing to give services could be sent to phone number 1584 round-the-clock. (TNA)
