Liver of Anzac grandchild to be transplanted into Turkish patient

CANAKKALE (A.A) - November 24, 2011 - The liver of grandchild of an Anzac who died at the Gallipoli Peninsula during Canakkale Battles will be transplanted into a Turkish patient. 67-year-old Bruce Dougle Hamilton from Australia had a brain hemorrhage when he came to the western province of Canakkale to visit the grave of his uncle who died during the Canakkale Battles. Hamilton's wife Betty Jean and daughters Alice Fay and Fiona Helen took him to hospital, where the 67-year-old Bruce Dougle Hamilton underwent an operation. However, Hamilton's brain death occurred on Wednesday. Doctors said Hamilton's family decided to donate his organs upon his will. An associate professor from Inonu University Faculty of Medicine in the eastern province of Malatya came to Canakkale to get Hamilton's liver. Associate Professor Burak Isik said Hamilton's other organs could not be transplanted into patients due to some problems, and therefore they only got his liver. "The liver will be transplanted into a 54-year-old man in Malatya," Isik said. Isik said he was so touched that a liver of an Australian citizen would be transplanted into a Turkish patient.
