Local Media Told Not To Be Influenced By Baseless Reports By International Media

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- Local media practitioners should not be influenced by baseless reports by international media which are intended to disrupt political stability in the country. Legal action should be taken against any media, local or international, which published reports on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) issue without verified sources, said Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan to the media at the Parliament lobby here Monday. He was referring to a statement by Prime Minister Najib Razak Sunday that he would decide in the next few days on the form of action he would take concerning the allegation that about US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) had purportedly been channeled into his personal account. Deputy Foreign Minister Hamzah Zainuddin also hoped the people would not be deceived by the baseless reports on 1MDB. "The people should look in terms of economic development where we (Malaysia) are able to maintain our economy at a time when the world economy is facing a slow down. "Recently, international rating agency, Fitch Ratings, showed our capability in maintaining fiscal finance which is managed so well by the prime minister, who is also finance minister," he added. The Prime Minister's Department had denied the report on the channeling of the fund into Najib's personal account and regarded it as a political sabotage to bring down the prime minister. -- BERNAMA
