Locals follow up Preah Vihear territorial case

SI SA KET, November 4 (TNA) - People living near the Thai-Cambodian border are following up news reports on an unsettled territorial case related to the Preah Vihear Temple. Areas near the common border in Thailand's northeastern Si Sa Ket province were silent on Monday morning, as villagers were closely monitoring relevant reports. The Hague-based International Court of Justice is scheduled to rule on the Thai-Cambodian territorial case concerning a plot of land surrounding the ancient Preah Vihear Temple on November 11, 2013. Domestic tourism near the Thai-Cambodian border has declined, as local authorities have closed the Khao Phra Wihan National Park as of November 4 to ensure international tourists’ safety and to prevent demonstrators from rallying on the Mor E-Dang Cliff in the park. Demonstrators of Dharma Yatra and Santi Asoke groups have gathered at the city pillar of Si Sa Ket's Kantharalak district, taking turns to deliver speeches against Cambodia and playing music to campaign for nationalism. In Thailand's eastern Chantaburi Province, also bordering Cambodia, paramilitary rangers and Marines have conducted surveillance along the common border to prevent Cambodian demonstrators from entering the Thai territory.
