Love couples rush for marriage on Valentine’s Day

BANGKOK, February 14 (TNA) - Several thousands of love couples rushed to government-run district offices to register their marriage on Saturday (Feb 14), the St. Valentine’s Day 2015, with Bang Rak District, or the community of love, one of the most popular districts for marriage registrations in Bangkok, announcing it can register only 1,000 couples until 3pm. Police Major Genera Wichai Sangprapai, an advisor to the Bangkok governor, presided over the opening of marriage registrations on Valentine’s Day, themed the "Eternal Love at Bang Rak", at the Bang Rak District Office in the early morning. But many couples surprisingly arrived at the Bang Rak District Office even before the staff began distributing coupon number at 6am. Shortly afterwards, 10 prizes of gold-plated marriage certificates were given away to lucky winners. Prizes were set to be given away to 265 lucky couples who have received the certificate before 8am on an hourly basis until 2pm. Several Thai traditional marriage customs were also performed before those coming to register their marriage, including a parade of dowry, a pouring of nuptial water and a dress competition promoting Thai culture. At Bang Plad District or the community of desert, the atmosphere was not bad, as 15 couples arrived early in the morning to apply for marriage certificate. Prizes, including electrical appliances, were given away to those early birds. While love fills the air, the Royal Thai Police, meanwhile, ordered police nationwide to be on alert to keep youngsters, especially those aged under 18, staying away from narcotics or young girls from being lured to hotel. Police were also ordered to patrol at entertainment venues to prevent all illegal activities from happening. (TNA)
