Mae Sot Airport to be renovated

TAK, June 19 (TNA) - Mae Sot Airport which has become too crowded in the past few years will be renovated to facilitate passengers. Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittyapaisith has presided over the opening of the airport expansion project in Tak province bordering Myanmar. Tak province is one of special economic development areas promoted by the current government to bolster Thailand’s economy with its neighbouring countries. According to official statistics, more than 140,000 passengers used the airport in 2015. It could cater a maximum of 200 passengers per hour. After considering that the airport is overcrowded, the Transport Ministry has decided to spend 1.5 billion baht for the renovation project. Upon completion in 2019, the new passenger terminal will be able to cater 600 passengers per hour or 1.5 million passengers a year. (TNA)
