Mahidol University ranked Thailand’s top Green University

BANGKOK, January 22 (TNA) - Mahidol University has been ranked Thailand's top Green University for the second time, but the 4th in Asia and the 31st in the world. Mahidol Univesity President Prof. Dr. Rachata Rachatanavin told journalists of the results, from a recent survey among 301 global universities conducted by University of Indonesia (UI) on UI Green Metric World University Ranking 2013. Professor Rachata said the assessment criteria include the surveyed universities' comparable locations and utility systems, as well as the management of their energy, climate change, wastes, water usage, transportation and education services. According to the president, the latest rankings were better than Mahidol University's positions in the previous UI survey in 2010, the 1st in Thailand, the 11th in Asia and the 36th in the world. The president acknowledged that Mahidol University is determined to become a full-fledged Eco and Sustainable University by 2016, as it will not only keep maintaining its sound environment conservation systems, but also give priority to its green sustainability through the promotion of mass use of bicycles among students and the separation of garbage for its recycling purpose to save energy and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to ease the problem of global warming or climate change, along with its use of electricity, water, gasoline and other natural resources to its full efficiency.(TNA)
