Maj. Al Mohannadi: Lekhwiya Search and Rescue Team Participated in Relief Operations in over 45 Countries

Doha, November 28 (QNA) - Captain of the Search and Rescue Team of the Internal Security Forces "Lekhwiya" Major Abdullah Eid Al Mohannadi said that the project for which the team awarded the INSARAG "Heavy" classification represents an addition to a series of accomplishments which the team has achieved since its establishment. During a press conference held after the award announcement, Maj. Al Mohannadi said that the Qatari team took part in relief operations in more than 45 countries around the world, pointing to his aspiration to provide assistance in disasters under the umbrella of the United Nations and post-seeded teams in the experiences and challenges. He added that the Search and Rescue Team is ready and qualified to provide assistance in the land, sea and air, such as fires, chemical defense, diving and others, to contribute to the preservation of human life regardless of religion, color or affiliation. He underlined that the team will maintain its advanced level of readiness and will work to upgrade this level through three exercises in Qatar over the next year in addition to other regional exercises. For his part, Director General of the Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi and Regional President of the INSARAG Mohammed Al Ansari expressed full confidence in the Qatari team which succeeded all requirements to be the team No. (45) in the world that gets this high international classification. He added that the State of Qatar has the right to be proud of its team which is the youngest in the world, and underlined the team's commitment and response to all international calls as a major and active actor in the fieldwork. He pointed out Their Excellencies the GCC Interior Ministers' approval to the (6+1) initiative, which is a committee to develop search and rescue teams in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, noting that the first meeting of this committee will be held in Qatar early next year to organize cooperation strategy in the field of search and rescue.
