Malaysia And Kazakhstan Have Same Stand On Nuclear Weapons Issue

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's stand on nuclear weapons is in line with Kazakhstan, for the total elimination of this weapon of mass destruction. Kazakhstan's Chairman of the Committee for International Information Roman Vassilenko said that Malaysia always supported the initiative of Kazakhstan towards the adoption, within the United Nations (UN), of Universal Declaration on the Achievement of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World. "We are very grateful to Malaysia's support for our intiatives and we are encouraged by the strong feelings between our two leaders especially after the visit of Malaysian Prime Minister (Datuk Seri) Najib Razak to Kazakhstan in May," he told reporters here Wednesday. Earlier Vassilenko opened "The ATOM Project- Sign On for A Nuclear Weapons Free World" exhibition at the National Visual Arts Gallery here. Vassilenko also expressed his confidence that the close relationship between the two countries would provide a firm foundation for expanding future bilateral cooperation to a new level of comprehensive partnership. "We (Kazakhstan) think the relationship is very strong including economically and politically and hope it will become even stronger in bilateral form. Meanwhile, Vassilenko believed this joint venture exhibition could create awareness about human and environmental devastation that could be caused by nuclear weapons to the world. The exhibition is organised in conjunction with the International Day Against Nuclear Tests and will be held for 10 days, starting Wednesday. -- BERNAMA
