Malaysia, China To Work Closely On Transportation Issues

By Niam Seet Wei BEIJING, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and China have committed to continue working closely on transportation issues, including issues on the 21 Maritime Silk Road initiatives mooted by the Chinese president Xi Jinping, as well as the search operation of the missing flight MH370. Malaysia also welcomed Chinese investors to invest in Malaysia and help develop the economy of both countries, said Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai. “We also discussed ways to improve bilateral relations, especially in transportation, building railway tracks, locomotive and coaches,” he said. Liow is leading a Malaysian delegation to attend two meetings with vice-minister of China's transport ministry, as well as the vice-minister of Chinese foreign ministry. Speaking to Malaysian journalists here, on Monday, deputy minister of Communications and Multimedia Jailani Johari, said both meetings went smoothly and the Chinese government had reiterated its commitment to continue supporting and assisting Malaysia in issues pertaining to MH370. “It includes the welfare of the next-of-kin (of the affected passengers onboard),” he told Malaysian journalists here, Monday. The delegation members also included Deputy Minister of Defence Abdul Rahim Bakri, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Chew Mei Fun, Director-general of the Department Of Civil Aviation Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, as well as newly appointed Malaysian ambassador to China Zainuddin Yahya. -- BERNAMA
