Malaysia Gains Global Recognition In Dengue Prevention Efforts - Minister Subramaniam

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's efforts in addressing the dengue outbreak has received widespread recognition and support among countries of the World Health Organisation (WHO), said Health Minister Dr S. Subramaniam. Dr Subramaniam, who is also World Health Assembly (WHA) vice president, said Malaysia was leading efforts to deal with dengue outbreaks and this issue should be the main agenda in discussions among the global community and WHO. "The assembly being held from May 19-28 is attended by health ministers from 194 countries," he said in a statement here Thursday. He said separate meetings on the dengue outbreak is also held during the assembly, which touched on mosquito-borne diseases that needed to gain serious attention and awareness among the international community. Dr Subramaniam said Health director general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also attended the WHA in Geneva, Switzerland. --BERNAMA
