Malaysia, Germany Making Efforts To Address Irregular Movement Of People

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Germany, which are directly affected by the irregular movement of people and illegal migration, are making efforts to address the issue at source and provide humanitarian assistance to those affected. This was among the key issues touched during a meeting between Malaysia's Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and the German Federal Foreign Minister Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier in conjunction with Anifah's visit to Berlin on June 10. Wisma Putra (Malaysia's Foreign Ministry) in a statement Friday said, Anifah also took the opportunity to brief Steinmeier on the efforts that Malaysia had undertaken to address the issue, including the meetings with his counterparts from Indonesia and Thailand as well as his visit to Myanmar. The statement also said that both ministers shared their concern on the continuing spread of extreme ideologies such as by IS especially amongst the youth. There was also discussion on efforts for Israel-Palestine peace process, it said. The statement said Anifah had reiterated Malaysia's hope of achieving a final, just and comprehensive settlement with the state of Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace within secure and recognised borders, based on the Roadmap and the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. Anifah also noted Germany’s efforts to move forward the process, including Steinmeier's recent visit to Gaza, Jerusalem and Ramallah on May 30, it said. The statement also said that both ministers had agreed on the need to enhance future bilateral ties including in bilateral trade and investment between both countries. --BERNAMA
