Malaysia highly interested in Russian hardware - Rosoboronexport

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Itar-Tass) - Thirty delegations have attended Russia’s arms exporting company Rosoboronexport booth at the Defence Services Asia 2014 (DSA) exhibition, which, closed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday, April 16. Malaysia “showed interest in the Buk-M2E medium-range surface-to-air missile systems, the Pantsir-S1 air defence missile-gun systems and aircraft fleet modernisation,” Rosoboronexport special programmes director Nikolai Dimidyuk told Itar-Tass on Thursday. Malaysia was also highly interested in the Kornet-EM and Metis-M1 multi-purpose anti-tank guided missile systems, the Mirage, Sobol and Mangust patrol boats, he said. “Asia Pacific Region countries lay the emphasis on the coastal zone and airspace,” Dimidyuk said, adding “APR partners show interest in the T-90S upgraded tanks, the Yak-130 jet trainer, the Mi-28HE and Ka-52 combat helicopters, the Amur-1650 submarine and coastal missile systems,” Dimidyuk said. The DSA 2014 exhibition has been held since 1998 under the auspices of the Malaysian Defence Ministry, the Armed Forces and Royal Malaysia Police. It ranks fifth among major world arms exhibitions.
