Malaysia to Lift Import Regulations on Japan Foods

Tokyo, Feb. 21 (Jiji Press)--The Malaysian government is set to lift import regulations on Japanese food it introduced following the nuclear accident at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s <9501> Fukushima No. 1 plant in March 2011, the Japanese agriculture ministry said Thursday. Certificates of origin will not be necessary for food exported from Japan to the Southeast Asian country on March 1 and later, according to the ministry. Such certificates are required under the current regulations. In addition, radiation checks are conducted in Malaysia on all batches of food from the northeastern Japan prefecture of Fukushima, home to the crippled nuclear plant. The radiation checks will also be scrapped. END
