Malaysia Mooncake Maker Expand Business, Own A Factory

KEMAMAN (Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia), Oct 14 (Bernama) -- After just eight months that her ‘kuih bulan’(mooncake) and ‘kuih bakul’ (Nian Gao or sticky rice cake) business became viral on social media, a disabled woman Haziqah Nurul Huda Harun, is now expanding her empire by starting operation at a new factory last month.  Haziqah or affectionately known as Yaya, 20, said she invested RM150,000 (US$1 = RM4.21) of her saving from the business for the factory operation cost, located at Bukit Kuang, Kemaman.  “Through operation from the factory, my ‘kuih bakul’ and ‘kuih bulan’ production was more organised and the quantities were increased compared to the production from home previously. “My current focus is to obtain the ‘Food Safety is the Responsibility of the Industry’ (MeSTI) certificate from the Health Ministry. “Although my ‘kuih bakul’ and ‘kuih bulan’ are made from the halal ingredients, but I still want to obtain the Halal certificate from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia to penetrate the global halal market more easily,” said Yaya who became paralysed after a high fever four years ago and had to use a wheelchair to move around.  Yaya, who is the fourth of five siblings, told Bernama that at the moment, she was focusing on ‘kuih bulan’ production due to the high demand locally and internationally, with average production between 40,000 and 60,000 of kuih per month.(photoBERNAMA)  -- BERNAMA
