Malaysia To Send 50 Doctors To Gaza

MELAKA (Malaysia), July 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is sending 40 specialist doctors to provide medical aid to Palestinians injured in the Israeli attack on Gaza, United Malays National Organisation (Umno) Welfare Bureau chairman Abdul Azeez Rahim said. He said the doctors would leave soon. "I have been informed by the Red Crescent Society in Gaza that hundreds of victims are injured in the attack and there have been more than 100 fatalities. "The volunteers, comprising specialist doctors in various fields, including paediatric, orthopaedic and gynaecology, are very much needed ," he told reporters at the presentation of tithe from Tabung Haji here today. Abdul Azeez said the decision to send the volunteers on the humanitarian aid mission was reached at the Umno Supreme Council meeting on Friday. Umno is Malaysia's largest political party and a founding member of the National Front (Barisan Nasional) coalition government. So far, 43 volunteers, including 10 doctors, had expressed their intention to participate in the mission, he added. -- BERNAMA
