Malaysia Shares Experience Of Mamacare's Success At Oxford University

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), May 25 (Bernama) -- The post-natal care service for mothers, MamaCare started by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) has attracted international attention when Malaysia was invited to present a paper on it at the Oxford University recently. Malaysian Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim said the paper was presented by the ministry's secretary-general, Sabariah Hassan last Friday (May 20) as Malaysia's social innovation programme at the Challenges of Government Conference held at the university. "MamaCare is currently providing its services overseas including in London, Dubai, Vietnam and other ASEAN countries. The MamaCare service provider will live overseas during the confinement period of 44 days and return with experience and exposure. "MamaCare has also caught the attention of expatriates based in Malaysia," she told reporters after the ministry's monthly gathering here Tuesday. Rohani added that following the success of the LPPKN MamaCare programme, the ministry had patented it as many parties were trying to copy it, including the uniforms, and using the same name. The MamaCare programme was started in 2012 as a holistic postnatal care service for mothers after delivery, aimed at improving the well-being and reproductive health of women and families. This training programme is an initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) as 1Malaysia Women's Initiative for Self-Empowerment (1MWISE) and also a smart partnership between the LPPKN, Eduskill and the Malaysian Traditional Malay Massage Association (HAMA). The purpose of the programme is to improve the well-being of women and families through economic empowerment. Under this programme, elderly women and single mothers especially from the low-income group, could generate income by offering the service to post-natal mothers. Participants who complete the MamaCare programme will receive a Certificate of Professional Massage Practice recognised by the Coalition of Traditional Malay Medicine Practitioners Association Malaysia. --BERNAMA
