Malaysian DPM Holds Talks With Bahamian Counterpart

From Muin Abdul Majid NASSAU (The Bahamas), June 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin (right) on Tuesday called on his Bahamian counterpart Philip E. Brave Davis (left) in conjunction with his working visit to this country in the West Atlantic Ocean. Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, is in town to represent Malaysia at the 19th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (19CCEM) which began Monday and ends on June 26. Talks between the two deputy prime ministers took place at The Bahamas' Works and Urban Development Ministry, at John F. Kennedy Drive, here. Davis also holds the works and urban development portfolio. Muhyiddin's itinerary for Tuesday also includes holding bilateral meetings with Bahamian Education, Science and Technology Minister Jerome Fitzgerald and Jamaican Education Minister Reverend Ronald Thwaites. Both meetings are scheduled to be held at the Atlantis resort's Conference Centre, the venue of the 19CCEM, on Paradise Island in this Bahamian capital. Muhyiddin will also attend the opening of the conference Tuesday evening and a reception hosted by the government of The Bahamas. The conference brings together ministers, senior officials, specialists, teachers and students to identify challenges and decide on policies and programmes that support countries in building effective education systems. The Bahamas, which joined the Commonwealth in 1973, is an archipelago of around 700 islands located southeast of the coast of Florida, and northeast of Cuba. (photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
