Malaysian Envoy Takes Part In MH17 Memorial Service

By Neville D'Cruz MELBOURNE (Australia), July 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Consul General here, Dr Mohd Rameez Yahaya, were among diplomats, political and religious leaders, who took part in a multi-faith service to pay their respects to the 298 people who died in the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash at the St Paul's Cathedral here Thursday. While more than 1,200 packed the historic cathedral, hundreds more followed the service on big screens at the Federation Square across the road. The service was televised nationwide. Victorian State Premier Dr Denis Napthine read a poem by Dutch-American Henry van Dyke as candles were lit to commemorate those who died. Sheikh Moustapha Sarakibi said a Muslim prayer, Hojun Futen gave a Buddhist blessing and Cantor Bruce Levin sang a Jewish lament. The plane crash claimed the lives of 28 Australians and eight permanent residents. --BERNAMA
