Malaysian Rehabilitation Organisation Collaborates with Oman in Special Programme for Addicts

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The drug rehabilitation organisation, Pengasih Malaysia (Pengasih), has spread its rehabilitation and treatment for addicts, in collaboration with Oman and Middle-East countries. Its president, Mohd Yunus Pathi, said the organisation had forged cooperation with Oman last year, and its government sent its officers for training here to adopt Pengasih rehabilitation models there. The officers were trained for between three and six months, he told reporters at Pengasih's Aidilfitri open house here Saturday. He said the organisation had been training participants from various countries, including Indonesia, Maldives, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Sri Lanka, Afrika Selatan, Jepun, Korea and several European countries. Mohd Yunus said, Pengasih had worked together with international and domestic agencies, including the National Anti-Drug Agency, health ministry, Colombo Plan (Drug Advisory Programme), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, World Federation of Therapeutic Communities, Japan International Cooperation Agency and foreign anti-narcotics agencies. Since Pengasih was formed 22 years ago, it has rehabilitated 5,425 addicts. -- BERNAMA
