Malaysian Shot Dead, Another Injured In Sungai Golok Town

By Tuwaedaniya Meringing NARATHIWAT (Thailand), June 30 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian died and another was injured after being shot Monday morning in Sungai Golok town. The shooting occurred at 3.30 am local time after the two crossed the border via the river at Pengkalan Prapa and hired a motorcycle to carry out their business in Sungai Golok town. They were shot in the streets of Charengket, in Sungai Golok, by two men on motorcycles. The deceased, Muhammad Asshraf Zafri, hailed from Malaysia's east coast state, Kelantan. Sungai Golok Police Station investigation officer, Col Pol Somchai Pearkan said he was shot on the head with a .9mm pistol. The injured was identified as Muhammad Irfan Muhammad Zain, who was seriously hurt on the back and was taken to the hospital. Two .9mm bullet shells were found at the scene along with 14 other bullets. Police based on evidence from CCTVs managed to trace a suspect to a house in Sungai Golok town and detained Jirasit Awae, 52, a Thai national. Another suspect, a Malaysian, Abdullah Samaha, managed to escape. Police are questioning the detained suspect on the motive for the killing. --BERNAMA
