Malaysian, Singaporean tourists continue to visit Thai South

BANGKOK, April 7 (TNA) - Tourists from neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore have kept arriving in the Thai South to celebrate this year's Songkran Festival, in the wake of car bombing attacks on March 31. The Malaysian and Singaporean tourists are arriving through the Sadao border pass in Songkhla province this weekend, mostly coming in groups on vans and buses but some riding their big bikes across the border. Despite the March 31 bombing in Hat Yai, the Malaysian and Singaporean visitors apparently remain confident in security in the Thai South. However, the Hat Yai car bombing has reduced their arrivals through the Sadao border pass in the lead-up to the Songkran Festival this year, compared to the same period last year. Besides, the Malaysian government has issued a travel advisory about the recent incident in Hat Yai, prompting some Malaysian tourists to be, instead, heading for other southern Thai tourist destinations, namely Phuket, Samui Island in Surat Thani and Satun provinces.
