Malaysian Students Safe, Opt To Stay Indoor Following Air Strikes In Yemen

KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysian students in Aden, Yemen, had opted to stay indoor following the air strikes launched by Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies in Yemen on Thursday morning. According to a Malaysian student in Seiyun, Hadhramaut, about 800 kilometres from Sana'a in Aden, they opted to do so for fear of their own safety. "I'm not sure who issue the advisory, but it was well spread among the student community here," he told Bernama through a Facebook message. The student, who insisted anonymity, also said they were all safe. At present, he said he had no intention of leaving Yemen and would continue following the development through the Facebook page of Malaysian Students in Yemen, which had also informed that the air strikes occurred quite far from the Malaysian settlement area in Sana'a. Foreign report stated that Saudi Arabia launched the air strikes early Thursday in neighboring Yemen, heading a coalition of Arab nations in an effort to dislodge Houthi rebels sweeping through that country. It was also reported that Yemen's embattled President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi had left his refuge in Aden for Saudi Arabia on Thursday as Houthi rebels battled with his forces on the outskirts of the southern port city. -- BERNAMA
