Malaysians Should Not Be Influenced By Outside Interference - PM Najib

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia) April 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak urged the people of Malaysia and the Muslims in general to unite and defend the sovereignty of the country from threats and instigation from irresponsible people. Citing the Arab Spring which led to uprising in several Arab countries, the Prime Minister said when the people of a country are influenced by outsiders, the people would end up as losers. "We should not be immersed in such ideology or be influenced by foreign elements from irresponsible people who are out to create chaos because if we did, we will not be able to retain the harmony that exists. In some countries what is termed as 'Arab Spring' had ended in disappointment. "It serves as a lesson to us that if we are not grateful for what we have achieved, there will be disappointment," he said after meeting about 400 voters at the Darul Ibadah Mosque in Batu Kawa, here Wednesday. The Prime Minister who had earlier performed the Isyak prayers at the mosque officially opened the Taman Desa Perwira Multi-Purpose Hall that will benefit the people of Batu Kawah in Kuching division. Najib said the people of Sarawak must weigh their options well to decide who would administer the state towards a progressive future by evaluating the candidates in the coming state election. "Based on our system, we must choose the party that we can depend on, not the individual...based on the policies and principles and leaders who can bring changes to the people and fulfill our aspirations. "If we give our vote to an individual, the individual will in the end not help us because in reality the individual is not able to help us. Although we may like the individual or candidate or attracted to the candidate, the deciding factor is whether the person is alone or represents a party," he said. Najib also urged voters in Batu Kawah to support Barisan Nasional (National Front) candidate Dr Sim Hui Kian who is the SUPP president in the May 7 election. Dr Sim, a cardiologist, will face incumbent Christina Chiew Wang See from DAP and independent candidate Liu Thian Leong in a three-cornered fight. (photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
