Malaysians Urged To Practise Self-Regulation In Safety Matters

KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), Feb 13 (Bernama) -- Self-regulation in safety matters is still lacking among Malaysians, said Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department training assistant director Mohd Hamdan Wahid on Friday. He said Malaysians had moved from the stage where preservation of public safety and order lay under authorities' jurisdiction to shared responsibility among the people and department agencies. Mohd Hamdan said in the past, a building's safety was under authorities' control but this responsibility fell upon the shoulders of building owners and agencies today. "We are yet to reach the level where people practise a high level of safety self-regulation unlike in Scandivanian nations where self-regulation on safety standards is common. "I hope to see Malaysians develop the same kind of awareness in safety for self, their surroundings and at the workplace," he told reporters here Friday. --BERNAMA
