Malaysia's Amanah Youth to Mobilise Relief Mission to Palu

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah or the National Trust Party) will be mobilising a relief mission for earthquake and tsunami victims in Palu, Sulawesi Indonesia from Oct 22-24. Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said the assistance, which will be handled by the party's youth wing includes the handing over of contributions and sending a support team to assist with humanitarian missions on the ground. "We have been collaborating with Indonesian humanitarian agency Aksi, Cepat, Tanggap (ACT) to carry out this aid mission. "This mission will be more of a preliminary survey by our team comprising of engineers, doctors and journalists because Palu needs a fairly long period of time to recover," he said during a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Monday. He said the Pemuda Amanah welfare fund which was launched earlier this month to raise funds to help the victims in Palu, had so far raised over US$12,040 (RM50,000). The earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale and ensuing tsunami which hit Palu on Sept 28 has so far claimed over 2,000 lives. Amanah is a registered political party in Malaysia advocating political Islam. -- BERNAMA
