Malaysia's Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged at 2.9 percent for May

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.9 percent for May 2014 from April. The Statistics Department said in a statement on "Labour Force Statistics Malaysia" on Friday that a year-on-year comparison indicated that the unemployment rate was comparatively lower by a 0.4 percentage point from 3.3 percent in May 2013. The labour force participation rate increased to 67.9 percent in May as compared to 67.3 percent in the previous month. The rise of a 0.6 percentage point is an extension of the increase of population in the labour market by one percent. People aged between 25 to 34 were the main contributors to this increase. --BERNAMA
