Man Detained in Turkey Returns to Japan

Tokyo, March 24 (Jiji Press)--An airplane carrying a Japanese man who was detained by Turkish authorities early this week for allegedly attempting to enter Syria, arrived at Kansai International Airport in the western prefecture of Osaka on Thursday night. The man is from the western prefecture of Wakayama. The Wakayama prefectural police department plans to question him on a voluntary basis in order to ask him why he visited Turkey and how he was detained. According to the police department and other sources, the man returned to Japan aboard the airplane from Istanbul. The man, when responding to reporters at the airport while entering a car with police officers, denied news reports that he had attempted to join the Islamic State militant group in Syria. END
