Many Thai areas heavily flooded

PHICHIT, THAILAND, September 9 (TNA) - Flooding has been heavily affected people in many areas in the Lower Thai North, including Phichit and Phitsanulok Provinces. Last week's excessive floodwater in nearby Sukhothai Province has reached and broadly flooded Phichit, in which a runoff from adjacent Kamphaeng Phet Province has also reached through the Yom River, causing 100 houses in Rangnok Sub-district of Sam Ngam District to face a nearly one-meter inundation consequently. Phichit's Muang, Thap Khlo, Sam Ngam and Pho Prathap Chang Districts have also been declared flood-stricken areas, as approved by the provincial governor. In Sukhothai, Governor Jakrin Plianwong inspected flood damage in Pak Khwae Sub-district of Muang District, which was heavily hit by water from the Yom River and, as floods have been receding, the provincial governor has ordered quick repair of local roads. In Nakhon Sawan Province, floodwater has reached Nong Bua District, affecting about 1,000 locals. In Ayutthaya Province in the central region, Governor Witthaya Phewphong told reporters that 825 houses in Sena and Phak Hai Districts have been submerged by about 10-50 centimeter-floodwater, as they stand close to the Noi River. Meanwhile, the Royal Irrigation Department reported that water levels of Ping, Wang and Nan Rivers have been, however, subsiding, and that the department could control the level of the adjoining Chao Phraya River by directing some water to irrigation systems on both sides of the river.
