Martial law in some Thai areas expected to be soon lifted

BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) - New Education Minister Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, who is also Navy Chief and a deputy chief of the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), says he believes that the martial law, imposed nationwide since May 2014, should be lifted in some Thai areas soon. Admiral Narong told journalists on Friday that there appears to be no problem in national security in general presently; so, he personally believes the martial law should be revoked in some Thai areas shortly. Admiral Narong acknowledged that the revocation of the martial law, as proposed by the local private sector, comes under the consideration of authorities concerned, and that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, who is also Army and NCPO Chief, earlier stated that the issue was being considered. The education minister made the comments after a meeting with Thai athletes who will participate in the 2014 Asian Games, set to be held in Incheon City, South Korea, from September 19-October 4, during which he gave advice and boosted morale of the Thai team.
