MCOT, CAT ink deal on digitization

BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) - MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), a most established Thai media firm, and CAT Telecom, a largest Thai telecommunication firm, have agreed to cooperate on providing and developing facilities for the broadcast of television and radio programmes under the advance digital system in Thailand in the near future. The agreement was signed by Thanachai Vongtongsri, an MCOT Vice President, and Kittipong Mekwichitsang, a CAT Telecom Vice President, at the MCOT head office in Bangkok on Thursday. Thanachai told journalists after the signing ceremony that MCOT is a media operator which has been licensed facilities and networks for digital broacasting services from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication commission (NBTC); while CAT Telecom has sufficient relevant resources, including equipment, sites and personnel, to support the advance digital broadcasting in Thailand. Kittipong, meanwhile, ensured that CAT Telecom has sufficient digital infrastructure to share with MCOT in order to provide higher quality image and sound to the TV and radio audience in the near future.
